What is a Reader Typica Service? The Typica generally is a brief service based on readings that is appointed by the Typikon for certain types of occasion. The Reader Typica service mirrors the Divine Liturgy, and is used when a priest is not available. It can also be used by members of a congregation who cannot get to church. It is usually led by a deacon, subdeacon, reader, chanter, or the eldest experienced layperson present, in that order.
An example of a Reader Typica service (English version of the Russian usage) can be found here.
As with the Divine Liturgy, everybody is welcome to attend the Typica Service, which is appointed for use at St George’s Mission when Fr George is not available.
